Working in the restaurant industry gives you exposure to all kinds of different people.
If there is one thing that I've learned, it's that almost everyone drinks alcohol. If you don't drink then you are certainly the exception and not the rule.

Whether it is a single mother with several babies, a young couple in love, an elderly man with a newspaper, a group of businessmen having lunch, or pretty much anyone else you can think of.... there's almost always alcohol involved.
That's a great thing for us because we get a great markup on alcohol. All the restaurants do. Have you ever tried to buy a bottle of wine from a restaurant?
It's like $27 for a bottle you can pick up down the street for $8.
You're buying the convenience and you're buying the status.
I don't think most people realize just how drunk most people are most of the time. It honestly amazes me. Almost everyone I know is a Joe six-pack, and some are even a Joe twelve-pack or a Joe twenty-four pack.
It doesn't surprise me. Life is difficult and alcohol is an escape that works for just about everyone.
So when I see a single mother, or an elderly man, or a group of people getting together at 4:00 in the afternoon to get some beers, I don't think anything of it.
There is one thing that always makes me scratch my head though.

There's another set of people that come in to drink. These people come in right around 11:30. They drink several tall beers. Usually the equivalent of six to eight beers.
Our tall beers are 22 oz. Some of them are quite strong, poured from the draft.
We like to cut people off at two strong 22 oz beers, but if you also order food you might be able to get away with three or four of them.
So here's what happens....
Two well-dressed men come in around 11:30. They each order a tall beer and drink it very quickly. They then order another beer and drink it very quickly. Then they get a piece of bread, or something small, and drink another beer or two.
That's a lot of beer.
They leave at about 1:00.
Where are they going?
I mean, they've got to be buzzing pretty good at 1:00 in the afternoon. Are they going home to sleep? It doesn't look like it. They're dressed quite nicely.
Are they going to work? They would appear to be going to work based on their outfits, but I don't see how they could possibly do it with that much beer in their systems.
It's possible they are going on a business trip.
It's possible they're going to a cabin on a lake.
I don't know what these people are up to, but it's something that happens quite often.
It's not necessarily two well-dressed men either. Sometimes women come in and do the same thing. It can be people of all shapes and sizes, but there are quite a few incidents of people coming in at 11:30 and drinking way too much and then leaving. I'm talking about normal people that don't look like they are trying to get drunk.
It is a mystery to me.
People that drink in the morning. Where do you go?
