I hope all is well! Today I want to share some experiences from my life.

I did not have it as rough as many kids I have seen throughout school. My experiences have taught me compassion towards others, so I can at least say that there was something positive that came from this. I grew up in a small city called Corpus Christi, Texas. I went to the city schools and they were predominantly Hispanic in culture. I was a white Canadian kid, so I stuck out like a sore thumb at my school. I made friends with a bunch of kids. It was not difficult for me to make friends in elementary school. As I grew into middle school the game changed.

Bully bully bully.
The kids started getting worse with the way they treated others. They were jumping random kids in the bathrooms. I can remember walking into a bathroom and peeing in the urinal. All of a sudden the lights turned off and I got hit in the back of the head. This resulted in me seeing stars. I somehow ended up on the ground where the kids eventually robbed my pockets and left me there. I had heard stories about kids getting burned with lighters and kicked completely bloody, so I felt my experience was somewhat lucky. I also remember one time kids laughing at me for my clothes. My mother was raising 2 kids and my father wasnt around. We had very little money for fashion, and at school I sadly fell victim to bullying over this. I just sat in my desk with my book up, tears falling from my face. It is sad that a kid would have to be embarrassed for things that are out their control. That is how bullying works.

Redemption.
Once I was halfway through 7th grade year my mother decided to remarry. We packed our bags and moved to Huffman, Texas, a Small town outside of Houston. When going to this school my entire reality changed. It was this little redneck town where basically everyone was behind in the times. It was easy for me to be interesting to these people when coming from a city with actual culture. I quickly gained popularity through being the new kid in this small school where everyone knew everyone. It gave me the platform to start over. To "re-identify myself" in some ways. I quickly made friends and grew away from being bullied. As I would see kids being bullied I would stand up for them and help them through their troubles. Letting them know about my stories was always something that could help them. Eventually they could see the light at the end of the tunnel. High school is not everything. You will grow into an adult and the entire game changes. So if you are bullied keep your chin up. Things will get better.
