We all know that technology has some negative effects on us, but in this post I’m going to talk about something more precise, something that I’m sure a lot of us are doing: sleeping with our phones close to us, or even next to our heads. Do you know the reasons why you shouldn’t do that?
First of all, we use our mobile phones in almost every moment of the day. We use it with our hands, we keep it in our pockets, we even leave it on the table or in other unclean places, so can you imagine the amount of bacteria can a phone retain?
I’ll give you the answer, and you’re not going to like it: a mobile phone can hold more bacteria than a toilet seat. Because of this reason, you should clean your phone if you want to use it before going to bed or when you wake up.
Secondly, similar to the microwave oven, your phone produces radiations that are bad for your body, even if it’s in small amounts. Is you use your phone all day and you expose yourself to these radiations, you should at least stop doing that at night.
Give your body a break and keep your phone away while you sleep. If you really can’t do that, here’s a trick that will diminish the radiation amount: keep your phone on airplane mode during the night.
Besides that, like your TV, laptop or any other gadget with LED screens, you phone also has blue light. Studies have shown that this blue light stops the production of melatonin, which is a hormone that helps you sleep. The light from the phone has almost the same wavelength as the day light, so it will trick your body into thinking that it’s day time.
Lastly, although the cases have been rare, some tragedies might happen. There’s a reasons why the producers warn us not to sleep with the phones next to us in the instructions manual. There had been cases in which, because of a technical malfunction, tragedies took place.
For example, if the battery of the phone isn’t compatible with the charger, it is possible for it to overheat. If you’re not willing to risk you phone blowing up next to your head or your pillow catching on fire, maybe you should keep your phone on your desk during the night time.
