Relaxation is an art and like every other art, it should be learnt and practiced until it becomes a habit. Relaxation is not just to lie down on bed and sleep all day and night that will amount to slothfulness and idle habit. rather it is a way of engaging the body and mind with pleasant activities that will help relieve tension, stress, exhaustion and boredom. It is a normal tranquilizer that calms the body by diverting the attention from our habitual worries of work, business, academics and other demanding lifestyles. The end effect of relaxation is a more cheerful, radiant, efficient, successful and healthy self that is in a good shape to participate in every day activities.
Relaxation is not only for adults it also necessary and beneficial even for the children and young persons. After all the strenuous academic periods when children don't get enough rest and sleep and their young brains are being bombarded with so much learning ideally a proper relaxation will do them good and that is the reason for vacations on between the academic sessions. Unfortunately these vacations are more observed for the purpose they are meant for, instead the stress continues for most parents, teachers and children alike due to various reasons. Which most-times are beyond people's control. Relaxation must not always be a case of traveling to unusual places, being among nature, the woods, the waters, good landscapes, village life, museums, engaging in good music and dance groups, soul-lifting activities and enjoying the company of other uplifting persons and groups are all very relaxing to the body.
Other forms of relaxing include:
- Taking freeing and regular deep breaths, especially on waking up in the morning and when retiring at night.
- Engaging in yoga.
- Taking a good walk and trying out some keep-fit exercises as much as possible.
- Stretching out and relaxing the muscles from head to toe consistently
- Massaging right and tensed areas of the body manually or with the use of machines.
I hope with these few points we realize how important relaxation is to the body.
