We as twenty first century space apes have a plethora of apps, sites and social media distractions. It's nearly impossible to go a day without being bombarded with notifications from facebook, instagram, twitter or other social media applications on your phone. While some people see this endless wave of notifications as them being "connected" to everyone else the truth of the matter is that these applications want nothing more than to suck you in and waste your limited time on this planet. Your time is your most valuable asset...
How many folks reading this article have found themselves getting a facebook or instagram notification then end up scrolling mindlessly through their news feeds looking for entertainment? I know I sure have. Getting sucked into scrolling through social media feeds while being force fed ads is a sure fire way to waste time, potential and profits.
The scary part to this is that most people don't realize that these apps are designed to waste your time and ultimately take you off the tasks you're trying to focus on.
Productivity++ by Being Aware of Your Habits
With the knowledge gifted above that social media platforms are engineered to derail productivity and suck you in to almost zombie like scrolling the next step towards maximizing your productivity is to avoid said distractions. Simple acts such as turning off phone notifications from facebook or instagram coupled with allowing yourself only a set amount of time each day to check these applications is imperative to creating a reality where you are not constantly being harassed by needless notifications.
Anything going on with your social media apps will still be there to check later when you give yourself time to do so. Do not get sucked into zombie scrolling a bunch of bullshit, it only serves to distract you and dilute the focus on more important things.
In this hyper connected age of information some people have started to neglect their day to day work in favour of getting lost in endlessly scrolling the cyber landscape looking for cheap entertainment. It's a sad reality where we are being subjected to a digital bread and circus type lifestyle in order to thoroughly distract us from the things that actually matter.
While many experts suggest that outright getting rid of social media is a good thing for peoples productivity one may find it better to find a balance between working and allowing the zombie scroll of social media. If you're on a task that is going to take hours to coomplete, perhaps allowing a 5 minute break every few hours to "catch up" on social media stuff would be benificial to your overall output towards completing the task.
It's up to the individual to find balance with these things.
Good luck and may you prosper.
