There has always been a lot of controversy about the Law of Attraction. Ever since the movie,The Secret, was released the talk and arguments on both sides have escalated.
I hadn’t planned on bringing up the subject for some time yet since I’m trying to cover success fundamentals first and I don’t consider the law of attraction to be on of the basic fundamentals or roots of success but, at the same time, it is the foundation upon which any personal development program depends.
For that reason, I decided to approach the subject. Without analysis of beliefs and development of a more positive attitude, a complete understanding of the law of attraction is difficult, if not impossible. However, I think it is necessary to acknowledge its existence and to accept the fact that the Law of Attraction is a law!
What I mean by that is, just like the law of gravity or any other physical law, the law of attraction is constantly working in your life whether you believe it or not. If you don’t believe in the law of gravity, it won’t stop you from plummeting to the ground if you jump off the top of a building.
The reason most people don’t have an understanding of the Law of Attraction is, they were only told that all that was necessary to invoke it was to concentrate on what they wanted and it would come to them. The thing that is most often missed is the fact that, without belief, instead of your attention being on what you want, it will most often be on overcoming or avoiding what you don’t want.
If you’re concentrating on overcoming something your thoughts are mostly on the opposite of what you want. You are focusing on the lack instead of the desired outcome. By focusing on the lack or fearing that the lack will remain you are attracting just that, the lack or undesired.
That’s the main reason personal development programs and books work for some but not for most. If you were raised with an overall attitude that you could achieve whatever you wanted to, success materials will work just fine for you and you probably wouldn’t be reading this. For the rest, the vast majority, we were raised with negative thoughts by negative people and, as a result, felt most comfortable with negative thinking people as we got older.
All of this just continued to enhance the concepts that life is hard, becoming wealthy, having good health and great relationships were mainly something for the lucky. We continued to want more but, deep down inside, we held the beliefs that these things weren’t attainable.
Most people, in young adulthood, settle into a world of “This is as good as it gets.” They have developed the beliefs that they are incapable of reaching anything significantly higher. They become stuck in a rut of mediocrity.
In my earlier post, Desire and Belief, I talked in more detail about how our beliefs are formed and how, if you desire something but don’t believe you’re capable of having or getting it, that desire is nothing more than a wish or a daydream.
The reason desire must be accompanied with belief in the outcome is the law of attraction. If you want something but don’t believe you can have it or get it, you’ll be concentrating on the lack of it much more than the object of your desire. Hence, you’ll be attracting what you are focusing on, the lack.
Jerry Hicks, in the introduction of the book, The Law of Attraction the Basics of the Teachings of Abraham,Said about studying Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich, :
“Utilizing the teachings worked so well for me, in fact, that in a very brief amount of time I was able to build a multinational business, giving me the opportunity to touch the lives of thousands of people in a meaningful way. I even began teaching the principles that I was learning. But although I had personally received incredible value from Napoleon Hill’s life-changing book, many of the lives of those I was teaching weren’t as dramatically improved as mine had been no matter how many courses they took, so my search for more specific answers continued.”
I was one of those who read Think and Grow Rich, as well as a host of other books with no significant results until I came to an understanding of The Law of Attraction.
It is my intention, through analyzing what wasn’t working for me and finally, what made the difference, to teach anyone who desires and is willing to put in the effort, to become as successful as they desire to be.
