Many of you might not know that it is very rare to see fireworks in Singapore. This is because fireworks are banned since August 1972 in Singapore after a few accidents including a fire that killed that killed 6 people and injured 68 people. It is illegal to sell and buy fireworks after that.
Since then, Singaporeans only have chance to witness fireworks on festive occasions like New Year Eve, Xmas Eve and National Day.
Every time I see fireworks in Singapore my tears rolled. Not because fireworks are beautiful and its rare to see in Singapore. It is because millions of taxpayers money are burnt for the fireworks (fireworks are damn expensive) for nothing and this money can be well used to help the lower income group and the needy. I know birthdays are important and it calls for celebration but I m a practical person so I feel its a total waste of money.
Anyway traditions are traditions so Happy Birthday my dearest Singapore!
