They call me the bird...maybe because I like to fly...not in a literal sense, mind you, but I like being high on life.... .. If you've read my previous post, you could see some of my " flying experiences ".........Today I want to talk about a fantasmagorical flying experience I had last summer.
Mankind’s Dream…
Dreaming of flying has always been one of man's great desires.... think of the legend of Icarius and his wax wings…or the fantastic drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci's incredible flying machines....we've always envied the birds' great freedom of movement and have always associated flying with a sense of complete liberty, right?
Well, nowadays there are so many methods available to experience this wonderful sense of freedom and adrenaline producing excitement... sky diving for example....
I wouldn't mind that so much , but being a little skeptical about jumping out of a plane with the possible risk of splattering my tiny little body all over the hard surface of this beautiful earth, I've always opted for some safer mode of excitement...until The Old Dog ( my husband ) discovered I-Fly!
The Answer to Our Dreams…
The I Fly complex ( I visited the one in Toronto Canada ) is a very powerful wind tunnel, where the air flow is controlled to allow for indoor sky diving, (or hovering if you will ) in a completely safe and controlled environment. (For more information on the 37 locations worldwide go to iflyworld.com)
We chose the 4 minutes option of fly time...which was made up of 2 one minute flights and 1 two minutes flight.....
The experience is a little pricey, I must admit,...we paid $84.. for the 4 minutes... but the price includes a 10 minute instruction period where one is taught proper posture and hand signals to use while hovering in the tunnel. Coveralls, helmet and earplugs are also provided ….
“What?!! That's all you got for $84.--dollars ?...What a rip-off!!” Is that what you were thinking ? Well...believe me...I thought the same thing, but you know what ? When you're not used to it, 1 minute of hovering seems like 10.. and our last session which lasted 2 minutes seemed like an eternity!...the excess skin on my face, arms and legs was flapping wildly like a sail in a wind storm and when I finally "landed" I'm ashamed to say that my legs felt like Jello!...so 1 or 2 minutes was more than enough....
Keep in mind that a freefall from 10,000 feet when parachuting would only last between 26-32 seconds!
As far as the cost factor goes...think of it this way...you're making a great memory!...what would you be willing to pay to have a great memory that will last you for the rest of your life ?...if you think of that event for the next 10 years, that great memory will have cost you only 3 cents a day….that's well worth it, and plus, we all know that you can't put a price on great memories!
So what is my recommendation? ...It was one of the most exhilarating experiences I've ever had and I would definitely do a repeat! If you have the chance don't miss out, I guarantee you won't regret it!
Oh, and by the way, You should see the instructor give his fantastic performance at the end of our session...click on the video to enjoy it!
Till my next “flight”...
The Bird..
