You've heard the advice to "go with the flow" when things get difficult. When life doesn't go as planned it's best to let go and be flexible. But is there such a thing as being too flexible or passive in your life?
I often encounter people who have mastered the fine art of flexibility to the point where they have lost direction in their lives. Their lives are no longer their own and they’re riding the shifts and changes with no idea of where they are going.
In certain circumstances, like when you're going through radical changes, it's most desirable to be in a state of free flow. But there comes a time when going with the flow can turn into giving over your power.
If you're feeling like you're at the mercy of the universe... like things are happening to you, then you're not going with the flow. You're giving over your power.
Giving over power can feel like being battered against the rocks as you’re carried downstream.
Giving over your power feels like swimming against the current.
Giving over your power is draining.
Giving over your power is exhausting.
By contrast...
Flow is life giving.
Flow is graceful.
Flow is joyful.
Flow allows you to be comfortable with the uncertainties of life.
Flow moves you.
Flow expands you.
Flow supports you.
Flow leads you to fulfill the big picture.
Flow leads you to the places you want to go.
You stay in the flow and in your power by first establishing that you will respond to life by loving yourself no matter what. Then you surrender everything else to the unknown. As things come up you take the most loving action in that moment. Then you allow yourself to be taken down the path that you established with your intention of love.
