We just had a 9-hour electricity outage yesterday, and sure it's quite a rare experience...what's the last time this area experienced a planned electricity outage again?
Without lamps, and the fan isn't spinning...
We got the notice a few days before the event, so at least we are somewhat prepared for it. Phone batteries are fully charged together with power banks just in case we need them, and laptops...hah, I tried! But that battery with only 33% max capacity left isn't helping much :P
It had been quite a boring day without electricity, considering how many things we couldn't do without it...it's not just about the Wi-Fi or electronic devices! The lights are out, and daylight isn't enough to light up the whole house. What does that mean? You have to sit at the door to read, and doing anything in other parts of the house is troublesome due to not enough light. Including floor sweeping, so stuff had to be kept dirty for a day...
For the very first time it's dirty not because I'm lazy...
Of course, you can also read and do stuff in places like these, if they exist in the house...nope, we don't have big windows like these. :P so everyone sat at the door...hey, at least everyone was finally interacting without looking at phones all day! We have indeed evolved so much to an extent that we need special occasions like these to finally interact...It just gets funny...
We didn't go out because it's just me and the grandparents at home (who aren't too willing to walk much), so we just sat around, doing random stuff that can be done at that moment...and before we finally realized hours had passed and electricity restored. When my mum came back from work and asked about what we did during those hours, I couldn't answer! It gets scary when you realize how time flows away without you feeling it...
There isn't much electricity outage over here, most of what we have experienced were unplanned accidents (the two that I remember were caused by trees falling down and took down a wiring pole or two). One of them even happened at night and we had to use candles...nice memories, eh?
Sometimes it's only when we are forced into situations like these we'll somehow appreciate the experience they give, not like I enjoy electricity outages, but honestly speaking, I don't mind having a random "blackout day" or something every month to spice things up a bit and force us to do stuff that aren't part of daily life. But I think people might hunt me down for this suggestion... :P
Alright, that wraps it up - see you next time :)
