The dancehall steps are generally thought out so that they match the sounds and lyrics in the song. As a result, a lot of funny names were created, which you can easily remember. The dancehall dancers come up with funny names like: row di boat, xcuse mi plz or now you see me now you don´t. Some dances can be performed by both sexes others are more on the feminine touch. The ladies only routines are usually very erotic that sometimes require a lot of flexibility. The dancehall dancers are vibrant and physically expressive people, so not only are the dances for fun, they are also a medium of self expression.
The Success
In recent years the likes of Sean Paul and Elephant Man have had major commercial success portraying these elaborate dance moves like Willie Bounce, Rockaway and the Tunda Clap in their music videos propelling these dance styles internationally enabling them to grow in popularity and US artists like Usher, Beyonce and Fat Joe can be seen emulating these moves in their music videos.
So and I spent our Sunday in the studio practicing some new choreography for our videos, which we also share on other social media platforms. We are super motivated and constantly working on our dance skills trying to get better day by day. As I mentioned in my last dancehall post, we also take dancehall classes here where you burn more energy doing the lively routines than going to the gym. If you´re looking to keep fit through a combination of dancing and exercising, then Dancehall is definitely my best recommendation!
Here are some of our favourite dancehall steps which you can easily copy at home!
