On the tail end of a wild and uncertain year, from the present-day middle known as Minnesota... I have been gearing up to head South for the winter with my darlin' , destination: Taos, New Mexico. That adventure has now begun, but first a few words concerning the days gone by.
Farewell EOS Detroit, Live Long and Prosper!
Back in May of 2018, I cast my lot with the remarkable team of the people-powered startup EOS Detroit. Eighteen months later, due to a combination of ambitious ideas, challenges with EOS governance, and lack of consistent BP (block producer) rewards, EOS Detroit has not yet been able to leave survival mode and I no longer have the capacity to sustain my involvement. Being on the frontline of communications for a BP team within the eternally dynamic EOSIO politico cryptoscape is not for the faint of heart, but it has been one hell of a ride! I have made amazing connections all around the world, traveled, and learned so much about the EOSIO ecosystem.
So, after a good run with many wonderful adventures, it is time to move on. I now say farewell to the remarkable team of both past and present, but not goodbye, for the infrastructure we are building today will serve as a profound framework for a broad range of empowering tools and services in the future, and I won’t be a stranger.
”When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”
– Alexander Graham Bell
Gratitude for Strong Allies
If you’re an avid reader, and viewer, of the dark-pinup gazette, you’ll perhaps know that we have been commiserating over the oft tumultuous life of the freelance creative. Lars is maybe the most relentless freelance creative I've ever met and he manages a remarkable balance of quality and output.
My conversations and collaborations with Lars over this past year have been one of the most enduring and encouraging features of this zany life. We've experienced the peaks and valleys of the cryptoscape together. Our only continuity has been the legendary Gorkha Palace Buffet, the creative family at , and the unbridled creative urge we both share.
So a big shoutout to , one of my most supportive and encouraging brothers-at-arms in a life which has felt a good deal like a crypto-punk patchwork hot-air balloon careening wildly towards a flickering horizon of unseen potential. Maybe you, dear reader, can relate. After all, the crypto bear market has been pawing with us all for a while now, and only a handful are immune to the market’s wild vicissitudes. We need each other to endure!
It All Comes Down to This
The life which I have thus far been blessed to live has crossed oceans, climbed mountains, and delved into countless worlds both spiritual and mundane. For the balance of my forty-three years on our beloved earth I have learned from many great teachers and allies. I have been seasoned in a wide variety of skills and professions. I have followed my intuitions and inclinations to the distant reaches of the horizon. I have had my share of risky, high-stakes ventures. I have tasted the sweetness of success, and have been plunged into dark depths of failure. There is one thing, however, I have never gone fully all-in on, and that my friends… is myself.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
– Marianne Williamson
Despite years of adventures and misadventures, I have not fully honored the gifts I have been given. I've been hedging my bets, making myself small, defaulting to all kinds of strange compromises with my talents, perhaps fearing the enormous responsibility that will come if I really step into my own power as a creative individual, with no organization or group to camouflage myself within if the going gets tough. But the going always gets tough eventually and in the end, it is our unique and very personal response to life's challenges which we must live or die by.
After all, no one gets out of here alive!
