One day, in a twitland I read about overflowing information on how to overcome a depression. However, throughout my journey, I've always learned how to beat it yet never read how to get a depression. This often happens in our life; we forgot the cause instead straight searching resolution. So,I came up with an idea to write about how to get a depression instead of how to overcome it. This may differs from one to another but the thing that I mentioned below perhaps resonates with your experience with depression. Now let's take a look if you do any of these, quick do the other way round.
1. Isolate yourself for 24/7
We are homo socius that means we need other human being to survive. Tell me how you can survive on your own? all the things that we have now are part of service provided by other human being. As much as you don't like dealing with others, let's face it we still need them.If you already have a depression and isolate yourself without meeting any other human being, will only make it worse. Initially, you will feel loneliness more than ever and the negative voices will be even louder than if you just go out for a moment, seeing how human interact. You don't have to talk, You just walk around the block and feel the wind or whatever you can feel.
2. Not exercising
According to a previous article written by Christopher Bergland on 25 studies confirm exercise prevents depression it says,
The majority of these studies were of high methodologic quality and provide consistent evidence that physical activity boosts happiness and prevents future depression. source : https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-athletes-way/201310/25-studies-confirm-exercise-prevents-depression
I know first hand that often we're inclined to go outside because waking up itself is hard. So,at least exercise by moving your legs, hands, sit ups and push up whatever that can release your tension and stress. Put out some happy music, for example play a chiptune if you're edgy or a hardbass, whatever you fancy but get some sweat. I promise it will make you feel better. Because when you're not exercising it will only cage all of your stress and tension. Eventually when it becomes too much that you can't handle oh well, welcome to the very darkest side of the world.
3. Not talking to human being
As much as you perhaps believe you are awkward, some people don't think so. There's never a wrong reason to just go out there, have some conversation with the cashier about the weather. It's also good if you can talk to your friends who you haven't met in days. Or if you happen to be anti-human being, you can alway talk to inanimate object and pretend it's your friend. It'll get better. However, if you're working in a creative industry - any job that requires you to have constant ideas, it's better to talk to strangers online or offline so you can find fresh ideas and perhaps make a new friend. When you don't talk to other human being, you will only keep everything yourself all the good and bad ideas. You will also won't get support you needed to make it true.
4. Being a dick on the Internet about how world should be this and that.
This is a little bit trickier because definitely we want some improvements in our world. However, It will never change if you just pushing your beliefs to others. It will only make you feel more depressed because the world just moves on and sometimes it don't even fucking care. If you want a change, show them what you do and why it's good instead being loud about it. Whatever you wanna change, do it from yourself, if others find it good, the rest follows.
5. Sleeping less
Sleeping is very important. No matter how you hate sleeping you have to tell your brain to shut down for a little while. Not getting a proper sleep will only make you irritable and grumpy. You will also most likely gaining weight because you're snacking at inappropriate time. A bonus, it can lead to more depression and pushing your self-esteem further down. So from now on perhaps you want to get a proper sleep like 6-8 hours a day.
6. Feeding your brain with hatred and negative news
You already have things going on in your life. You are even unable fixing it so why do you want to add more concerns into it? fix yourself first then help whatever your concerns. Because when you feed your brain with flowing negativity, you will eventually become more negative and see life in a worse pessimistic point of view. Then when you start talking to another human being, you will realize they're not actually that horrible from the narrative you've seen or read.
In conclusion, if you find yourself doing all these 6 things, you might want considering changing your habits. You can always cry to fried chicken and sleep. You can always lay in a starfish motion and do nothing. But I want all of us to remember something Z told me : Some days are better than the others. You can always steer it to different direction. You are the change and the fact you're reading this right now is an achievement that you still managed to see a little lights even if it just a little.
