There are countless of articles and videos made with tone that
'People still assume depression as the result of drifting away from God'.
Moreover, depression on it simplest form can be scientifically explained as lack of chemical balance inside the brain which affects the ability to think, feel and react. Apart from that, the cause of depression could vary from biological to psychosocial. There are also certain people who are at higher risk of having depression such as people with childhood trauma, past head or brain injury, also genetic factor ( close family with history of depression).
If you take a look above, is there anything mentioned that the cause of depression is because the sufferer doesn't talk to god? well, talking to invisible being could also lead to another symptoms of schizophrenia. So you got it right there, depression and schizophrenia.
I still have no heart for people who advised depression sufferer to simply " Talk it out to God, he/she will help out". It's not that they don't talk to god or perform religious rituals. Matter fact, I've met countless sufferer who were really religiously devoted to their beliefs but still suffer from illness people call as 'depression'. They were talking to god almost daily through religious rituals and came in a point where they even question if god exist. The concept of god as a helper doesn't work anymore to them, that's when they realize they need a "real" help from a "real" human being who is capable of lessening their pain temporarily.
Never ever talk to depression sufferer that they should go back on the right path (Talking to god). Your so called right path, isn't their right path. Instead of telling them to talk to invisible being, why not take them and guide them to meet specialist who will help them go through it and be the support they needed.
When I told my family, I suffer from weird thing that causes me to constantly think about dying, feeling worthless, inability to wake up in the morning, crying without a reason. They told me I need to go back to God and stop being lazy. So, were people around me who told me the same thing knowing I often missed from class for days. Little did they know, I've had my time talking to god knowing he/she isn't there to help and that I was left alone just by myself. Honestly, It took me years to finally tell a family knowing already they won't help. I was right, they didn't. They were simply stating that they understood I was different.
These days, for no apparent reason people started to become more aware about depression. Is it because countless of self diagnosed online test? because of popular television series about a young self harmed girl? is it because the popularization of 'depression, and depressed' word? Then world is suddenly full of creative and talented teenager, looking emo and hipster-ish plus depressed.
Where are people when there were countless of silent death which then diagnosed as heart attack, overdose and poisoned.Depression exist in the society from a long time but it wasn't as popular as today since the media brought it up to surface. It is now becoming ' popular illness' which everybody has. It's like You and Me, we have it. Don't try to top my sadness, my burden of life. I had it rougher.
I honestly think, talking and rambling to myself help. Difference is I am aware that the nature is listening to me. All things surround me, dead or alive. I think I come to point where I understand that what people mean to say was " talk to someone, I don't have time to listen to yours, you'd better talk to that invisible person and trust me you'll feel relieved just by creating an image that someone is there listening instead of me".For a depression sufferer, they have a common trait that ' no talking back to me', ' i just wanted to be listened' which is why god is the perfect place to tell it all.
