Sometimes life disappoints all of us. We find ourselves lacking in a key area, be it resources or current skill level. We need to take an honest assessment of our abilities and improve ourselves to avoid and reframe disappointment. Reframe disappointment as a gap analysis for what we need to accomplish the mission.
In broad terms, we need to lower our expectations and abandon unreasonable beliefs to avoid disappointment. Instead of taking a shot at greatness and cowering when we fail, we need to keep moving towards the next goal with lessons learned. What went wrong in our plan? Was the goal achievable and worthwhile? Were you ready for the challenge, and was the payoff within range? Ask yourself these questions to learn the real situation you faced.
In order to avoid disappointment in our endeavors, we must be realistic regarding our abilities and the opportunities we have been presented with.
In order to consistently perform above our current level, we must be honest regarding our resources, skills and abilities. In essence, we must continue learning and growing to make our abilities rise to our desires. If we stagnate, we will produce less and become more susceptible to disappointment.
