On 25 June 1980, a first day cover was issued in South West Africa to commemorate 25 years of nature conservation.
Four stamps were issued showing the Sable antelope, the Roan antelope, the Tsessebe and the Black nosed impala.
On the envelope itself the Wild dog is depicted.
In 1980, 10% of the total surface area of the country was protected.
The initial game reserves were proclaimed by the German government in 1907. In 1955 a special section of the then South West African Administration was made responsible for game conservation. Since this date more emphasis was placed on research to assist conservation efforts.
Cheers 🍻🍻🍻
I took the photos with my iPhone.
