We finally got the snow we've been waiting years to see here in northeastern Tennessee. I was skeptical when the news reports about a big snow coming started airing. Then, some guy from the Weather Channel who only travels to places where there are big storms showed in a town an hour away and everyone knew it was probably going to get bad. And it did. I'm so happy it did.
Isn't It Beautiful?
For two days our world shut down and businesses and schools were all closed. My husband, daughter, and I were stuck up on our mountain. We didn't mind. We had plenty of food and supplies so we enjoyed living in a moment of peace. We cooked some really nice meals. I made broccoli cheese soup and cheesecake on day one and roast beef on day two. We took some walks around the yard and went sledding down the mountain. We live in the perfect place to go sledding.
It was really nice to have an excuse to take two days off from life and society. Really good snow storms is the only time when society is forced to stop for a moment.
People are absolutely nuts for going out in snow like this. The snow lasted Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. They didn't clear the roads until the snow was done falling. Drivers on our snow covered road out in the country were flying fast. It's insane how many people took the risk of driving on our snow covered roads. The closest interstate to us got shut down because a truck broke down in the snow so the driver got out and another car slid in the ice and snow and hit the guy and killed him. No one should have been driving in this. Snow gives everyone a pass to stay home and enjoy a day off from work or school. The interstate was shut down and hundreds of drivers stuck in traffic after the accident all day while it kept snowing and snowing making road conditions worse.
The ducks made it through the cold and snow great. I put down a cinder block area in their pen and put a cheap heater in there and it's toasty warm. It's amazing how some plastic tarp keeps the cold out and heat in. The girls didn't like the deep snow and refused to go anywhere near the door when I opened it to check on them. They spent the day happily swimming in their tiny pool in their pen and eating duck feed. Day two they finally came out in the snow but they didn't want to be in it for long. It was neat seeing my ducks in the snow though (pictures later)
I enjoyed feeding them Cheerios and meal worms. I figured some extra protein was good for them while they were out walking around in the cold. The ducks were adorable eating and rooting their beaks around in the snow.
All in all it was a great blizzard for us. It was so relaxing enjoying the beauty of nature while being stuck at home. The mountains are so beautiful in the snow and I loved every second of being snowed in. Tomorrow life goes on and it's back to society for us.At least we had a moment.
