Two monks walking on a trail come upon a fast-moving river. A young woman is weeping because she is afraid to cross it. The older monk picks the woman up and carries her across. Hours later, the younger monk scolds the older monk for touching a woman, which was forbidden in their order. The elder monk replies, “I put her down hours ago but you are still carrying her.”
Think about the times you have carried incidents from the past into the present. When we do this, we create our own prison, seeing ourselves as victims rather than the powerful beings we are.
What issues are you carrying that need to be left by the river?
