Yes, because yes is different than no
I think that just about sums it up. Those who at times say a thousand words, but say nothing at all. Line after line of beautiful nothings that may or may not rhyme, but maybe merit less than a dime. Did you notice what I did there?
Anyways, I know why drivel works, it works because we can assign meaning to it, we can project our own emotions right onto the nothingness, the banality, and thus find ourselves agreeing profusely. However, if you were to ask two readers sitting next to each other, what they just read, they would find themselves experiencing different realities all together.
I've tried to describe drivel, plenty of times actually. I've used adjectives signaling irrelevance, but they are not always right, not always. Drivel can be relevant, yes it can, I've seen it with my own eyes. If this was not the case, Why do we have so many self help book on the selves? Why are they so popular?

The promises are plenty, the applications, the pragmatic steps to take, none existent. "Do you want to stop worrying? Yes, all you have to do is stop worrying, that is all." The chapter closes, the lesson is over, and there we are flipping back and forth to see if we missed something, but no, we did not.
So what does this say about us, the sapiens, the wise creatures that "rule" this planet. Are we really that smart? Are we really that dumb? How does this work? How can we be smart enough to fool ourselves? Is that not a paradox in itself.
Of course it is, remember.... I said yes, because yes is always different than no. But here lies the last question. What did you just read? Drivel?
