Yesterday there was some unfortunate news about one of the chicks dying and after quite a long time one off the parents removed the dead chick but today has seen a turn for the worse ( the six chicks are doing well) but if you look at the bottom of the nestbox it seems we have lost one of the parents, I’ve no idea if it’s mum or dad
I’ve been watching though out the day and the remaining blue tit is still feeding the chicks well hopefully this will continue
Now under normal circumstances the mother stays with the chicks at night, but if it’s the mum that’s dyed will the dad take over? Again I’ve no idea
All I can say is the remaining parent has got a lot of hard work now , one positive thing is I do supply lots of different forms of food in the garden which must surely help. I don’t even know if the remaining bird could remove the dead bird, taking to people in work and I agree for the moment I’m not going to intervene if in a few days the dead bird is still in the box I might rethink? This nature thing is a bloody emotional roller coaster. Thanks mike
