Hi
I'm a 41 year old mother of 3 living in the UK. I grew up thinking the internet was a bad place where bad things happened. I avoided any interaction on it and told my kids to do the same. I would hear horror stories of how through the internet people had been used, abused or manipulated. I told others the same story...bad things happen when you use technology.
3 years ago I decided to challenge this belief. It happened almost by accident, faith, karma - call it what you will, but it changed my belief systems.
I had started a physical products business in a local retail shop. I was barely making enough to cover the rent and a young millennial told me I should try selling through Ebay. Whilst I had used Ebay for selling a few household things, I didn't realize that individuals could use it for business too.
And so began - Adventures in the internet.
Through going on line and trying to teach myself how to complete listings, register with PayPal, take good photos, gain traffic, create Facebook ads and pages, understand google keyword etc I stumbled upon opportunities never knew existed. I began to see how through my limited beliefs I was limiting my children's beliefs. I began to see that by denying these opportunities, was denying the world to develop and grow.
I grew up with the following beliefs:
-that only the privilege few had a right to riches,
-that if you work hard you may gain a little earn a little more than just survival,
-that risks shouldn't be taken,
-that work was the be all and end all and
-your true measure was how much time you put in the office
-that great things only happen to a the very few and not the masses
-that in parts of the world where there is poverty, hunger and war - there is no hope
Maybe inside none of these ideas sat comfortably with me.
Maybe that's why my subconscious always challenged them.
Maybe the universe had bigger plans for me.
Maybe my Adventures in the Internet have bought me here for a reason.
Maybe you are my leap of faith.
