A cooperative is an autonomous association of people who have voluntarily joined together to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise. The diversity of needs and aspirations (work, consumption, credit, etc.) of the partners, which make up the social object or cooperative activity of these companies, defines a very varied typology of cooperatives.
