Generosity is an intrinsic quality, is part of the essence of each person, and making practice of it shouldn't be ventilated. Lately, I have seen how people are proclaiming to the world the works of charity that they perform, the help they give to others, at the less fortunate, and I could understand to a certain extent, that in a world plagued by bad intentions and worse procedures, make of the public knowledge, the few acts of goodwill, are perhaps a necessary evil. However, doing an act of kindness towards our neighbor, with the second intention of becoming public and wanting to sell oneself before the eyes of others as a good person, makes you rather despicable, because in essence, generosity is the sincere desire to make the life of others more simple and pleasant, and shouldn't become a selfish act where the "good samaritan" perceives one's own benefit.
Unfortunately, today it's very easy to know who is going through a situation of urgent need and in the face of such circumstance, which is becoming more evident every day, there are those who try to be part of the solution, placing a lot of coal to roast the meat they will distribute, but the smoke they cause is so high that it can be visible at great distances. Then I ask myself, why burn so much coal so that the whole city will find out what wonderful Samaritans they are? It would be better to give a soup already prepared and deliver it in the "shadows", when others do not see you.
In case I did not know how to explain myself well with that metaphor, what I mean is that charity sickens me, stirs my stomach and brain, whenever it is accompanied by scandal, publicity, presumption and vanity, pretending be covered by good feelings. The generosity must be intimate, that only you know what you have done and that makes you feel good and satisfied with you. It’s a virtue that adds happiness, inner peace, hope and joy to your life, because it's a universal law that everything you give comes back to you with more strength.
So I see it!
