We Made It!
It's hard to believe that it's been three years already, but here we are. It's been an extremely exhausting time, and has not been an easy child by the farthest stretch of the imagination. However, being that (I believe) this has to do with him being an intelligent and inquisitive kid I won't complain too much. But maybe just a little.
So when we got up in the morning, he says "Daddy. Milk."
I relied, "OK sure. Do you know what today is? It's your Birthday!"
He didn't skip a beat, then immediately stated "CAKE."
It was so funny because he had the most serious expression. Since we are having a party after Amanda gets back from her meditation retreat, I held off on the cake and just got him some frozen yogurt which he was perfect happy with.
Trip to the LA Zoo
Of course we had to do something fun, so I went ahead and took him down to the LA Zoo, since we already have a membership there. Sadly, we got a year long membership but this is only the second time we've been in several months. We'd better get some more trips in before it ends up being a waste of hard earned cash.
As always with him, going to the zoo is more about becoming an animal than it is about looking at animals. He always gets excited about the animals but once he gets there he spends most of the time climbing and crawling around the place, running by the animals not paying much attention to them. That is with the exception of the elephants. He really does like to stop and have a look at them, even though the one he likes the most is a pretty sad looking creature.
It always looks so sad and scrawny. I think it might just be old. Or the fact that it is stuck in a confined space. Who knows. One thing that is really weird about this zoo is that both instances that I've come the enclosures have seemed to be mostly empty. It is really strange. I'm not the only one noticing it either. Several people were complaining that there were hardly any animals anywhere. I know that sometimes they are hidden or removed for some reason, but I swear the enclosures were at least 60% empty. I don't know if I just show up at weird times.
At any rate this had very little effect on the birthday boy. He happily ran around and played with the dirt and leaves. To my dismay he avoided the shade at all cost leaving me with a slight sun burn. I knew I should have put on some sun screen! I guess accelerated aging is in my future.
It was a great day out with my little guy. It's been a weird couple of weeks here on my own with him. I must admit that I was a little bit stressed out being the only parent for a while. I have finally gotten into the groove, but tomorrow it's time to head back up to Twentynine Palms to pick up . I will be glad to have her back home so that I can at least get the occasional break! The funny thing is, Ricky hasn't even noticed that she left. Haha! Everyone says that this is a good sign that he feels safe and loved.
