The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it.
Hubert H. Humphrey
There is no one among us who is truly self sufficient. We are not islands and cannot survive in isolation. By nature, we are social creatures, creatures that thrive on co-existence, on communities and on team work. Because by our selves, we are incomplete, but together, we make up for each others' deficiencies, and that is what has brought us so far as a specie.
True friendship is priceless, knowing that there is that one person who will always be there for you, is a feeling that gives you a sense of belonging, a sense of hope and of purpose. Being part of a group, a group that is more than any one individual (being part of something bigger than ourselves) is what gives our lives meaning. A true friend is one you understand and one who understands you. Someone who, despite your flaws and short comings still accepts you. A true friend will not try to change you, except to improve you and to make you a better person than you were before.
There are those among us who are introverts, more comfortable with solitary life styles, not exactly the peoples' type. But even then, these people still need someone who will be there for them in their time of need. No matter how strong you are, there are times when life will break you, times when you will be vulnerable and down. During these gloomy days, we seek comfort in knowing that we are not in this alone, that we have loved ones who are willing to travel every step of this journey with us. That is true friendship and that is family and when you finally get this kind of people in your life, keep them.
