Life is associated with blood. As long as there is blood, there is life. When blood is drained from the body, life automatically is snuffed out.
Blood is so essential and respected that it was a way to cover short comings/sins. The connection of blood to life is so strong that the law forbade its consumption (Genesis 9: 4, Leviticus 17: 12, Deuteronomy 12: 23) because the blood is the life. As a practice, life was used to preserve life.
Exodus 12:1-13 gives us an account of the blood of animals were to bring about redemption. In the passage the Lord said... “When I see the Blood, I will pass over you” (verse 13)! The Lord was going to bring judgment over the land. He had proposed to smite the firstborn in all the land of Egypt because of their gods. If the children of Israel did not apply the blood, they would have lost their firstborns as the Egyptians and if the Egyptians had applied the blood, they would have been saved like the Israelites.
The preservation was NOT based on righteousness of man, but the sinless nature of the lamb. The life of the lamb was NOT enough by itself, the lamb’s BLOOD carried the protective/redemptive power.
The lamb had to be a young male lamb without any disease or abnormalities. Though the blood from the lamb (the Exodus experience) prevented death and overlooked sin, it was inadequate and created a longing for Grace – the perfect sacrifice.
Hope you will stay tuned...there is more...
