National Kissing Day 2017 takes place on the 23rd of June for its 11th consecutive year. We have worked with a mixture of brands and organisations surrounding the nation's kissing habits.

The nation's kissing antics have been investigated, revealing that young lovers in the 18 to 24 age group are making out an average of 11 times each week, while 5% of people aged over 45 are managing more than a staggering 31 passionate kisses each week! Who said that romance was dead?

Cute right? Well, not when you realise that when two people kiss, they exchange between 10 million and one billion bacteria.

Aside from the germs, and making you feel good, kissing is in fact a bit of a work out.

French kissing involves all 34 muscles in the face whereas a simple peck involves only two, plus, passionate kissing burns 6.4 calories a minute.

90% of cultures around the globe practice kissing and when they do, 66% of them close their eyes when they kiss.

That's because not only does kissing raise your heart rate but it also causes your pupils to dilate - so the increased light sensitivity may explain why.
