Some of my long-time followers on here may remember, but roughly 9 months ago, I posted on Steemit by candlelight because I was without electricity for an entire week following Hurricane Matthew. It wreathed havoc on the entire city and surrounding areas of Savannah,Ga .

Anyways, I survived that and learned a few hard lessons. One being, if you have an old boat cover, you might wanna pull the drain plug during a hurricane! Several days after the hurricane, after everything was somewhat back to normal,I thought to check on my boat. I head over to my son Jay's house where it's kept and I'm thinking, the boat's battery was new when we parked it, it has an emergency bilge system built in to automatically come on and pump out any water that might get in,so it should be fine. It maybe will need towelling down. Well guess what? Wrong! If it rains so hard that the seams on the cover burst and water comes in so fast that the battery is submerged, the bilge doesn't work!
I found 12 inches of water in the bottom of the boat! I immediately unscrewed the drain plug and let the water drain. Well at this point I'm thinking that the motor is probably ok, as the bottom portion of it is sealed and exposed to water if you take water in from a big wave or something. Next I raise the seat and look under the dash where all the amps and subwoofer are located and sure enough, they got wet. My 12" sub and 3 amps destroyed! Of course when the battery went under, there was probably a small fireworks show under the boat cover as the positive and negative battery post both were conducted by the water as it was submerged! My only other concern at this point is to check the fuel tanks and make sure there no water that seeped in before I get a new battery and check the cd player/head unit and everything.
I finally managed the remove the floor panel and checked the fuel cell and there's no water! We've been busy working and I moved across town and so we just got around to getting a battery the other day. We intended to use the boat this weekend for the July 4th Holiday.
I go and get a new battery and install it and try to switch it on...nothing. It's like the new battery is dead! So, now instead of worrying about amps and a subwoofer, I need someone to probably replace the entire electrical system! I googled it online and everyone pretty much agrees that when that charged battery goes under, it fries some stuff!
behind LUCY
It's going to be a dreadful 4th without the old girl, we named the boat "LUCY" years ago, after a puppy I had,
but that's another post also.https://steemit.com/photography/@pipertomcat/my-pup-lucy-with-her-golf-balls-photography
Anyways, no more catching waves or wakeboarding until we take the boat to a certified boat mechanic. We'll probably be forced to take it to the Nautique dealership in Orlando,FL. I had it serviced there once and for an impeller and oil change, it was $1100, so there's no telling what this will cost!
