So I just went walking one day with my bud after getting some semi-fancy coffee, and we come across some chillen' folks just hanging out by a roundabout . Truthfully I knew that they would be there, I won't pretend it was a surprising event. But I didn't realize how amazing it was what they were doing.
Sitting behind a table, chilling and talking with each other. And giving out free food. Yes. (Alright, here is the truth, I went there because who doesn't follow the news of free food). But I'm really glad I went not because of the food, but because it opened my eyes to what they were really doing.
They had acquired food from stores that would have been thrown away otherwise, cooked it up and served it to absolutely anyone that wanted it. Absolutely no cost other than the time they spent in cooking and hanging out with their friends, having a good time, and serving and meeting people that come by. That is a beautiful thing.
They call themselves Food not Bombs . An organization touching people all over the world. Even though I didn't need a free meal, I connected with them and was inspired to have helping people part of your life.
This movement also protests war and poverty and has made huge influences around the world, working towards peace and justice. There is a lot to be done, and a way to start is spreading awareness.
Now I'm thinking to myself. "Don't volunteer. Live!!"
