Ohayou Steemians, RakeruMON desu!!
As some of you may have already known, I am an avid cosplayer. I’ve been doing cosplay since this year’s UP Otakufest: The Matrix last February 18. It’s an annual event that showcases the best stuff the anime community here in Cebu has to offer. I have always loved watching colorful characters come to life. Being the daughter of a tailor, I’ve been exposed to various designs of clothing. May it be for formal occasions or bizarre commissions my mother would work on, I have seen a boatload of creativity from just those outfits.
I’ve been taught by my mother the basics of hand sewing and machine-sewing, you can say that being a cosplayer now I am blessed to have been taught these skills earlier on. Yes, I am blessed with these gifts and what better way to start using these skills than to create stuff for cosplay.
To start off, I am not that good yet. I have not tried sewing full scale clothing yet. I just do detail works and prop stuff. I already have a mini sewing machine in line for the big stuff so I’m pretty much set to start with bigger things.
My mini-sewing machine :)
Though I might pick characters that are still too simple, I am proud to show it off in public. My first character was Suzuya Juuzou from the anime/manga Tokyo Ghoul. There are many versions to this character so I picked the vaguely recognized version of him which is the black version from the manga which is still ongoing.
RE: Suzuya Juuzou aesthetic during UP Otakufest: The Matrix
Many people took photos with me and some recognized my character. I could still remember the faint screams of some fangirls when they saw me with my big ass scythe prop. They would approach me squeamishly, forcing themselves to calm down before taking a selfie with me. It was an exhilarating experience for a first timer. Others would also scream my character’s name and I’d immediately look for them as if they were calling me by my real name.
It’s really fun being someone else for a change. Being an aficionado of fantasy, it’s a very surreal experience cosplaying.
Me with my cosplay buddies I made during an event last March. We don't know each other that much (we just met), but we all love the same thing. Instant Tokyo Ghoul cosgroup.
Just recently I have attended a cosplay event in a mall here in Cebu called Anime Asobi sponsored by the Cebu Cosplayer’s Guild. I never thought that the day would come that I’d actually get the huge chance to meet and take pictures with some of the local cosplayers who I admire here in this event. I also meet up with some of the friends I’ve made after coming to these events.

People are still pouring in

Unbeknownst to common folk here in Cebu, there are tons of otakus that are very active. They have already founded official groups for cosplayers and just plain anime nerds. It’s really refreshing that they take the time and effort to organize these events for people with the same interests to just mingle and have a good time together.
Although these events are very short, the memories that you create will still be there for the rest of your life. Through cosplaying I have observed deeper into this community and how the communication between them is being strengthened by these events. It’s a win-win scenario for both otakus and passersby when it comes to these events. The smiles of the people enjoying their time in these events are priceless.
Having said these things, I am very much proud to share this here at steemit to all of you steemians. Cosplaying is hard work and materials don’t come cheap. Through steemit I’ve funded my cosplays for some time now. I am very glad to have discovered this platform just as I am glad to discover cosplay.
I hope this community strives even further and I hope we get together someday.
This is your friendly neighborhood otaku,
