One counterpoint they would've responded with in my coursework (I may have asked this exact question), was in reference to herd immunity. You don't know if the health of the unvaccinated would be as good as it is if the rest of the population weren't vaccinated either. Not a great standard of scientific rigor though, lol. "We don't know, so let's err on the side of these risky medical procedures that maybe have no actual benefit." Same reason I didn't take the COVID jab. At minimum, the data showed no benefit to my demographic and especially not my wife and children, and the risks, both known and unknown at the time, almost certainly outweighed just getting the disease itself. I never would have imagined 5 years ago that I would be an anti-vaxxer, but I'm certainly a lot more open to that perspective now.
