As I walked through the airport to get Candy, I came across a double line of military persons, in all sorts of uniforms, some real high brass, Vets, Bikers, all branches , lining the entire concourse. I wondered what high ranking official might be coming through. So I asked. This was a greeting and honoring of Gold Star families. That is as high ranking as it gets in my book. They were being treated to a getaway at Disneyland. Home Depot sponsored a play area with toys for the children as they had an hour lay over. Suddenly, there erupts a round of cheering and clapping as several families walked through. I watched as a young Mother with three children walked by. She was fighting back tears and her children were sheepishly smiling at the overwhelming display of support. The back of the vest of one biker read, " We stand for those who stood for us" At that point I had to walk away. I didn't want to be seen crying. After the procession went through, here comes Candy from the other way. We held each other tight and sobbed uncontrollably. She choked out" Did.. you.. see.. ?" I just nodded. After a few minutes we regained some composure and were able to compare notes of what we had just witnessed. So much sadness and glory all mixed up together bewildered, humbled and amazed us. We are thankful that at our worse, we have been blessed not to suffer such a tragic loss. We are grateful sinners.
