Today in the world co-education is considered a norm. It is normal for opposite genders to study and pursue their dreams together. While co-education has its positive points it also has some negative points as well. That is why some countries provide different schools for opposite genders. Some even have the same school but the boys and the girls have separate classes, lectures and even recess. In some countries it is even considered immoral for boys and girls to be studying together. Alas, while on this topic it is also important for parents to realize that there is no harm in sending their children to co-educational institutions.
It was said that:
“Co-education is a western concept in its nature. Its main purpose is to end the modesty of women by persuading them to join the gaiety of the club. So the debate on the issue of co-education is useless."
Problem No 1:
Boys Get Distracted:
The first and foremost disadvantage of having to study in co-educational institutions is that boys tend to get distracted by the presence of girls. They find it harder to concentrate on their lessons when girls are around. Though this is not always the case but majority of the boys tend to have their attention diverted if a girl is sitting near them and this setting gets worse with the onset of puberty. Girls tend to be oblivious of this fact thus making it even harder for the boys to communicate with them.
Problem No 2:
Difference in Mentalities:
In terms of education boys and girls should not be given the same curriculum. Due to the difference in their mentalities, boys and girls have different preferences. While boys may focus more on sports and careers, girls tend to have a hand in home life as well. Though there is absolutely no doubt that females are entering the career field as fast as any other male but still the fact remains that the basic needs and requirements of both boys and girls is different. Thus making it necessary for them to pursue different studies in separate colleges or schools.
Problem No 3:
Approach of Indecency:
According to some parents (that are influenced by society) they would rather not let their children study in co-educational schools as to them the interaction among youth only lets to indecency. They have failed to accept the fact that when their children grow up they are bound to interact with the opposite gender. Parents are always cautious, they want what is best for their children and according to them if they wanted their child to remain pure they must send them off to single gender schools.
It was wisely said that:
“Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together, make this world a Beautiful Garden”
Problem No 4:
Difference of Mind-set:
Though in many colleges and schools, boys and girls study together till a certain age, the age of puberty but after that they are separated until they enter universities or step into society. Also, it is also known in Islam that free intermixing of boys and girls is not permissible. That also becomes a reason why many Islamic states around the world have already separated their schools on the basis of gender.
Conclusion:
In the end, co-education also has its merits. But it depends on the mind-set of the parents and how much of an influence society has on them. While some may consider it vulgar others still appreciate the approach of co-education schools. No wonder society is divided into different school of thoughts.
Alas, it is as David Icke said:
“What schools, what education should be, in a natural order world, is not ow do we get children to be what we want them to be, but how do we get the best and the potential out of every child in their unique sense and unique self… but like I say, we live in an inversion and so we get the opposite of that… Have you noticed how they say, these politicians about education, “We must prepare children for the workplace” in other words the system should fit us, we should not fit the system”.
