It is said that the present day age is that of Kali yuga - the fourth of the chathur yugas as Hindu scriptures.
Kali is the time when the decline will occur, although slowly.
At the end of Dwapara yuga, King Parikshit( grandson of Arjuna) had requested Kali not to wreak havoc in all parts and Kali had agreed and told him that only where the four vices were present; kali effect would be felt.
The four factors which attract Kali are
- alcohol
- gold
- women (prostitution)
- gambling

The above is a simple symbolic statement that one should not succumb to vices.
Earning money is never easy. Even is a person gamble and earns, he will be eventually attracted to gambling and become addicted to it and finally lose all.
The unending desire for gold, wealth and material possessions can never confer true happiness. Money is necessary but it should not make a person so selfish and greedy that he/she forgets kindness.
Addiction to alcohol and other substance wreaks havoc on the body. The body is just like a machine which needs to be in shape. Why not get 'high' by doing good to others or by indulging in creative hobbies?
The increasing number of crimes against women can be traced to factors like mental health issues. People are after momentary happiness and therefore resort to physical happiness and think that the 'flesh' is indeed what gives true joy. Sad to note that even small children are not spared. Child abuse is a crime but the authorities are not taking enough action against such criminals.
