How media manipulates women’s self-esteem
Recently watched a documentary on German/French TV ARTE
called “Embrace”.
I found it by chance, but from the first minutes on I felt like “oh my god, this is so true“.
It was about an Australian woman who told about how she one day started to love her body, even though she was insecure for all her life. How she was working out like crazy after giving birth to 3 children until she had a perfect body, and still she didn’t feel any better.
But what does “perfect” mean? Who’s defining what is beautiful? And even more important: why is beauty so important for women, rather then men?
Taryn Brumfitt, the founder of “ Body Image Movement” describes her situation like this:
“Before I embraced, I weigh myself, naked after morning wee, before breakfast. When I stepped onto the scales I decided if I was fat or thin, good or bad, a success or a failure.”
In this movie she explains how media, advertisement, movie industry, impacts peoples -societies- understanding of beauty.
How pictures are photoshopped, how far away models bodies are from “normal” female shapes and how this happens around the world.

In fact it is incredible how we let this happen! So I decided to support this movement. I can only recommend on everybody: watch this movie!
