we often ask ourselves, what we'd do when they leave.
what would become of our lives without them?
how would we ever survive?

IF ONE DAY
we wake up and the sun no longer shines in the sky,
and everywhere in complete darkness, with time our eyes will adjust to the darkness.
we might brood around for a while, but that's normal, it's okay.
when we long for just the sound of their voice,
but its quickly fading away with time into a distant memory
until we can no longer remember the echoes of their voice.
when their side of the bed gets cold from the absence of their body warmth,
we would eventually stop sleeping on one side of the bed, our side of the bed,
we learn to roll over, sometimes sleep in the middle and
appreciate the fact that the bed is ours alone and we no longer have to share.
we change settings of many things to adjust for just single usage.
we learn to make just one cup of coffee for ourselves,
might not enjoy it alone at first, but evetually start enjoying cup after cup alone.
we buy a bottle of vodka, revel in the fact that it will last longer
because we'd be drinking it alone.
then we'd keep the other glass in the cupboard because we'd only be needing one.
we change our message tones so we get used to a different tone that doesnt remind us of them
change our ringtone, we change our wallpaper
probably delete voice notes that are from them, where they sang to us or
or other statements that made us laugh and love them so hard we though't we'd die.
we realize that there are many other contacts on our phone and
we have missed being in so many people's lives
because we've let our life revolve round one person.
we call old friends, we hang out, we catch up.
That's how we do it.
We adapt, we survive
No one stops living, we might lag for a while
we eventually get up and mix and set new goals
we have new hopes, create a new fantasy,
experince new things, we grow wiser.
