“WHEN WE FALL ASLEEP, WE WITHDRAW OUR AWARENESS FROM ITS HYPNOTIC FASCINATION WITH PHYSICAL SENSATION, THEREBY ENABLING US TO LISTEN WITH OUR NOW AWAKENING SIXTH SENSE.” - HENRY REED
Some people fall asleep quicker and some take a little longer to relax the body and soul. I have personally made some great experiences using some tips and tricks but I came to a point in life where I do not need any tools or inventions in order to fall asleep better and quicker anymore which is a great feeling! I know my body, how it reacts to certain things and how to treat it the correct way in order to get the best results even when it comes to sleeping.
Do you think you are one of those people who struggle with falling asleep every other night? Have you tried out different techniques or medicines in order to get the deep sleep?
Well, I cant guarantee that the following techniques will help you but to sleep is an essential and if you do not get enough hours of sleep, your body will pay back for sure! Reason enough to take a further look and to start with number 1.
Foods That Help You Fall Asleep
I need to mention that you shouldnt eat before going to bed. If you take any foods before bed you will notice that it gets much trickier to fall asleep than before. Eating a snack will support your metabolism which means your body can continue to do fat-burning work while you sleep instead of taking a rest and reload the energy for the next day.
But the food I am going to show you is just the perfect addition to get a better sleep so just try to eat some of it during the day time....
- Bananas
- Kale
- Fortified Cereal
- Jasmine Rice
- Salmon
- Tuna
- Yogurth
- Chickpeas
DRINKS
- Chamomile Tea
- Tart Cherry Juice
If You Can´t Sleep, Get Creative
This is maybe my absolute go to essential fall asleep trick.
Stress is a major cause of insomnia and doing creative exercises before bed will make you feel productive and happy - and it will lower your stress level as well!
Put Your Phone Away
Most people are addicted to the use of a smartphone these days. You see them checking emails, reading/sending messages, playing games, surfing in the web and taking selfies almost everywhere. But if you have problems by falling asleep, I would definitely recommend to put your phone away during the night time. Of course the radiations are bad and it can cause physical pain but there is another reason why you should switch over to a normal alarm in the morning instead of using your phone...
Your mind is constantly busy trying to answer your questions and wondering whats happening on social media or anywhere else where you are interested in. This happens unconscious and there isnt much what you can do about it because this is how your life looks like. Checking mails, talking to friends, reading news, checking the feed on social media etc etc... If you put away the phone during night time, your mind will realize that it´s time to relax and not worrying about other stuff...
Lavender
Some of you may remember lavender from my anti jet lag post. The scent of lavender eases anxiety and insomnia! There are many possibilities on how to use it the right way. You can either put 2-3 drops lavender oil on your pillow, use the inhalation method to draw the scent all the way into your amygdala gland in your brain to calm the mind or rub it on your chest so you can smell the scent while falling asleep.
Lavender is known as a calming and relaxing herb and has frequently been used for insomnia, anxiety, depression, and natural stress relief. One recent study discovered that the scent of lavender increases the time you spend in deep (slow wave) sleep, though the effects were stronger for women than for men.
How Awake Are You?
Make sure to stop drinking caffeine or stop spending a lot of time looking at screens. This will waken you up which is terrible if you are dealing with insomnia.

A deep sleep is an essential for health and if you are dealing with insomnia, I would definitely recommend trying out at least one of those tips which I mentioned above. Again, I am not a doctor or professional nurse! I just want to share my experience and this will hopefully be a complete game changer for some of you...
