The tradition of eggs husbandry in Bucovina is an art inherited from ancestral estates and is practiced on Easter Thursday before Easter. Moreover, the eggs are an art that the people of Bucovina respect with holiness, being inspired by folk costumes, traditional and natural motifs.
Housewives choose fresh eggs of hen and duck. They also have a recipe for distinguishing fresh eggs from old ones. It sinks them into the water. Fresh eggs fall on the bottom, the old ones rise to the surface. Then the eggs must be emptied. In this way they can be preserved over 100 years. Emptying the egg is also necessary to eliminate the risk of an unpleasant smell when an accidental breakage occurs. Empty, the egg becomes easier on the ground. Homemade eggs are also only washed with water, but commercial ones should sometimes be degreased using a little detergent.
