We've been having a mass clear out at home over the last few weeks as we plan to move house in the not too distant future. It's a jolly stressful time. I was not best pleased when my car started playing up yesterday afternoon and started to display an engine warning light; it was on route to taking stuff to the tip. Was it a sign? I drove the car home on 5 of its 6 cylinders, put it to bed in the hope I'd imagined it and all would be fine this morning.
Wishful thinking!
I spent the first part of the day rearranging my day and then started the hunt for a garage to investigate the fault. Usually I'd take to to a BMW specialist but today I just wanted to get it sorted so I took to a garagemy wife uses. An interesting little place on a farm, but only a few miles walk from where we live. Being within walking distance of the house (2.6 miles) was today's saving grace; it's been a beautiful spring day.
The photo above was taken about 3/4 of a mile from my house, it's the Grand Union Canal near the village of Cheddington in Buckinghamshire.
The West Coast Mainline runs over the Grand Union here just a few miles from where the Great Train Robbery happening in 1963. Cheddington was also the location of a USAF Airbase which was apparently used by the CIA after the war. It was apparently vacated due to the amount of interest the Great Train Robbery bought to the area.
Heading home from the garage took me through this canopy of trees. I frequently walk the dog along this little paths. It leads to a swing bridge which my grandad used to take us to see.
I've very happy memories of the White Lion Pub in Marsworth as it is here I had my first and only bar job! Very happy times between leaving college and starting my first proper job.
It has been shut down for a good few years now which I think is such a shame. It has apparently been bought by a local pub owner who is preventing it being re-opened as a pub. Very sad if that is the case.
So, my stressful morning turned out a day of happy memories; it wasn't so bad after all. Also I managed to get a good amount of exercise including my morning run with the dog.
