When comparing countries for visa rules, it's important to make a distinction between tourists visas and other, long-term visas.If you plan to only stay a couple of months, a tourist visa is usually the best idea. If you work online and get paid in cryptocurrency, most immigration departments don't know what to do with you anyway.
So what do we need to create a boundary-crossing community like steemit.city?
- Multiple entry visas for all nationalities
- Relatively cheap price for visa
- Little government interference
- Easy renewal procedure
Getting all of these right is not an easy task. Some nationalities are banned in almost every country. These mostly consist of Middle-Eastern states and North-Korea. We can scratch the entire 'Western' world from the list, as their immigration policies are notoriously tough. Well, unless you were born in of the same Western countries of course.
After some research, I ended up with these possible locations:
Uruguay:
Very blurred rules. I read stories about people living off a tourist visa for 10 years. Little information to be found online. If anyone has more details, please share! But looks like easy to enter and stay.You can get a 90-day tourist visa and extend it by doing a visa run or going to the National Immigration Office. Sources say it costs less than $20!
Albania:
A country where most nationalities can enter without too much hassle. The visa allows for a stay up to one year without applying for a Residency permit. The cost of living is relatively cheap and they have fast internet connections. Albania is enclosed in the South-Eastern part of Europe and flight connections are lacking.
Cambodia:
Centrally located in South-East Asia, Cambodia is remarkably easy to get in to. Practically every nationality can get a visa on arrival, which is then easily extended with periods from 1 to 12 months. Price is around $300 for a year. The country has two international airports with connections to all the major hubs in Asia.
The idea of Steemit.city came from 
We chose Siem Reap, Cambodia as the location for this idea. We want to make sure everyone is able to participate. And the relaxed visa requirements make this the ideal place. Anyone can enter and stay for a couple of months. Longer periods are just as easy.
