I'd pretty much bet none of them had anything to do with your degree or your current occupation or business.
Funny that this would come up as a trending topic on Facebook. My son's in his second year of college (sorta), and absolutely hates school.
I keep telling him it's not necessary to sit in a classroom to get the education he needs.
Of course, I don't have a whole lot of credibility there. I went to Rutgers for my undergrad (Psychology), then Gordon-Conwell for most of a Master's (Counseling), and then back to Rutgers for a second set of courses to enable me to sit for the CPA exam (man, that was a hard exam!).
... and fast-forward a couple of decades... I'm a freelance writer.
But, I thought it would be interesting to see what other people's journeys were like.
Here are the first seven jobs I held:
One: Counter help at Heidi's European Pastry in Englewood, Colorado.
Mmmmmm, croissants. But if you asked for a donut, we'd show you the door.
Two: Poop scooper at a veterinarian's office and kennel in Englewood, Colorado.
Oddly serene job... even with the barking. The cats were not my favorites, though. They get mean when they're not home.
Three: Receptionist and proof inspector at Princeton Corporate Graphics. PAPER CUT CITY!
Four: Temp secretary at a different office every other day throughout Princeton and Plainsboro, New Jersey.
How do I answer the phone today???
Five: Typing business in college. A dollar a page, baby.
On an electric typewriter... with paper, yo.
Six: Receptionist and then medical insurance biller at Willowdale Medical Center in Hamilton, Massachusetts.
My head still hurts.
Seven: Administrative assistant and then staff accountant at Danser, Balaam & Frank in Princeton, New Jersey.
If we've ever talked for more than 37 seconds, you know how much I hate math.
So, how about you?
