I’ve broken more than one New year’s resolution in the past. And I know why. I’ve always looked at thing very black or white. And I usually go all in at everything.
Yet another cozy Steemit pic ()
I just read this book that I loved. Too bad I can’t remember the name of it.
This guy always tried to get in shape and he always failed. He realized that what he told himself was to harsh.
I’ll exercise two hours every day
The second you fail, you’ll feel like a failure and give up.
So this guy promised himself to do one push up every day for a year.
He started off good, but this one night he went to bed and realized he hadn’t done the push up. He was super tired, but he rolled over in bed and did a very poor push up.
At least he did one! And he didn’t fail.
As a result of this he managed to do it. Some days he even did 4 or 10 push ups! And then after a while it became a part of his daily routines.
What I took away from this book is that if I set smaller goals, I’m more likely to succeed.
So, my New Year’s resolutions are:
• one hike every month
• save 5 % of my income every month
• eat one veggie or fruit every day
I think this is pretty manageable, I think planning a hike will be the most difficult to actually do.
Wish me luck!
My advice for you is to break up the goal in smaller pieces.
I also heard a podcast where a woman was talking about how she got sober. She didn’t say to herself that she would never drink again, she simple told herself:
I will not drink today
This seemed more manageable for her. Which makes a lot of sense!
Do you have any resolutions or dreams for the coming year?
