Enjoy this phenomenal, picturesque footage I shot in Moscow. Because Russia, Russia, Russia is all we hear about these days. But what is Moscow really like in this day and age? Suzie Dawson, activist, journalist and leader of the Internet Party of New Zealand, takes you on a tour around Moscow, along with her best friend, tour guide Ksenia Terenteva.
Hey everyone!
Since Russia is incessantly bandied about in the news cycle by people who have never been here and probably never will, I figured it would be timely to take the opportunity to show people what Moscow is really like.
Kiwi In Moscow is a web series I started in 2017 which I intend to continue in 2018. In it, my best friend Ksenia and I tour around different locations in the city to show people what Moscow is really like, because it is absolutely nothing like it is depicted to be in the West.
Each episode has a different theme, features different places, people and activities, and has an interview component in each.
In the second episode the theme is war. We join some 800,000 Russian citizens to march in the Victory Day parade to the Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral. This is the biggest holiday day of the year, because so many Russian people died in World War II - at least one in every family, more in many - that even now over 70 years later, every single Russian person marches to remember the sacrifice and then celebrates the day that the war ended.
We then head to an after-party at a local restaurant and listen to some live music. (Bonus - you get to see Ksenia dancing!) Later in the episode, we meet up with two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee anti-war activist, author and radio host David Swanson and take him on a tour of the city. We end up at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, sitting by a reflecting pool and having a long chat about how to end war, before walking over one of the bridges on the Moscow River.
Would love to hear your feedback and know what you think. Do you like what you see? Is it what you expected?
The next episode gets even better, but because they take me a long time to produce, I'll probably only be posting one per month after that.
Enjoy!
