My days on Steemit dwindled recently, but I do have a valid excuse. My mom turned 50! While for most this is not out of the ordinary occurrence that would turn one’s word into chaos and disorder, for me, it did! My mom turned 50 and we made a BIG deal of it. We upset our routines, put projects on hold and survived on fast food all so that we could prep and plan a huge celebration in the name of the woman who has blessed the world with her presence for more than 50 years.
My mom is no ordinary mom, she’s super mom. No jokes. She fell pregnant with me when she was only 17 years old, she never got to finish school or follow a career of her choice. But she pulled it together, held it together and set the example for us all – while smiling. She is loved by many, appreciated by all. She deserved a celebration of a life time.
So, over the last two weeks my sister and I put our lives on hold and planned her party. This was the first real party she has ever had as an adult, and we wanted to make it HUGE. Which we did! Since my mom’s birthday is in July and because she absolutely loves Christmas, we went with a very trendy “Christmas in July” theme. We found the perfect venue in our home town and together with the venue’s events coordinator we brought Christmas to life, in July. It was beautiful!
From the décor to the food, everything was perfect. The atmosphere was lively and fires, Gluwein and Carols by candlelight set the mood for a fine afternoon and evening of entertainment as we spoilt my mom with love an appreciation. Cheese platters whet the appetites of the guest as they entered and the dining hall was a treasure trove of fine dining, crisp drinks and everything jolly.
My mom, as kind-hearted as she is, request that instead of bringing her gifts, that everyone bring a monetary donation which she would deliver to an orphanage which is close to her heart. We requested that each guest fill out a Christmas card with a message to the children at the orphanage. The cards were then sealed along with their donations and placed into Santa’s Mailbox for a safe delivery.
The evening was past socialising with the people in my mother’s life, all of which only had good and kind things to say about her. My mother is a patient person and she will go out of her way to help people. She is always happy to give a listening ear and she is known to stop what she is doing to put other people first. Keep a look out for a poem I wrote for my mom that describes her perfectly.
So, the late nights tackling my glue gun, putting together speeches and finalising menus is the reason why my days on Steemit have been so quiet recently. I have had something more important to do – I’ve been celebrating my mom!
