On March 19, 2018, the writer, editor and bookseller Pedro Varela Geiss entered prison at the "La Roca Quatre Camins" Penitentiary Center, located in La Roca del Vallés (Barcelona-Spain) to serve the sentence of 3 months and a day that had been sentenced by the Criminal Court No. 15 of Barcelona. Finally, on May 22, 2018, the Provincial Court of Barcelona issued an Order of Suspension of Sentence to Pedro Varela Geiss, who on that same day, at night, was released.
Pedro Varela Geiss has a degree in History and Germanic Philology. Since 1994 he was the owner of the famous "Librería Europa", located on Seneca Street in Barcelona, he was also the director of Ediciones Ojeda. Both companies were closed on July 9, 2016, after a police operation of the Mossos d'Esquadra, for the alleged dissemination of books that promote hatred and discrimination. In this operation 4 people were arrested and 15,000 books were seized.
