So Im about three weeks into my Steemit journey, driven here due to the constant censorship, bans, friend requests from bots posing as models, I'd had enough of Facebook, it does not represent freedom of speech in any way, shape, or form. The whole idea of freedom of speech is laughable anyway, like it should ever even be up for debate! Anyway my point is I was driven here more by despair than anything else. I had heard a few good things but never really looked into it in depth, I just had a nagging voice in my head whispering Steemit in my ear it seemed!
I must admit the first week or so was a challenge, trying to get my head around the differences between Steem, Steem Power, and Steem Dollars was not easy. Then of course you spend time creating content and its seems to get lost down a black hole. However when researching everyone seemed to say that persistence is key, and that has certainly been the case. Steemit is a long term thing, its not overnight. Its like anything new, you have to put the time and effort in to get your head around it and be successful.
There are many aspects to this site I love, to get rewarded for your creativity and not have it taken away like Facebook does is amazing, to be rewarded for adding value to other peoples blogs by commenting is also amazing. But you know the most amazing thing of all is its ability to level the playing field across the Planet. A goat farmer in the poorest parts of Africa as long as he can get access to the internet has the ability to earn the same as a blogging banker in a plush apartment in London! For me that is the most beautiful idea, and I love to see posts from people in the poorer regions of the World and see them doing well.
Then there is the topic of philanthropy in that if you have a large following and start to do well you can help others by upvoting, commenting, and resteeming their content, its a perfect give and take scenario. This is certainly the long term intention I have with the site, to help others raise their profile and get their creative talents out there and be rewarded for it. Why shouldn't we?
Those people in the 'truth' or 'anarchy' movement have expressed concerns that this platform wont be able to reach as many people on Facebook, this is rubbish! Facebook has ring fenced the truth community so they spend all day talking to themselves now, its not what it once was. There was a time when it was great for raising awareness, that time is now gone. With Steemit you can post in several different groups so you can still reach a wide audience, and as the platform grows so will the ability to reach people. There is also nothing wrong with being rewarded for content you put out there, this is a SCARCITY mindset, and we need to move out of it. Life is hard enough for those walking the path of truth, why make it harder when you can make it easier? Im not saying there will be an instant flow of abundance, like I said persistence is the key here, but get involved! Free to join, no financial investment on your part if you don't want to, and no Mark Zuckerberg telling you cant do this, that, or the other!
Here is a vlog I made about Steemit
Hope to see you on the other side!
