Last night I had an experience that was a reminder to me how precious life is yet how fast life ends. I will always remember last night when I am not taking advantage of the time I have on earth.
After a long day at work, I closed up shop around 8:30PM and headed home. My drive home is about 15 minutes away only because of all the traffic lights. I was cruising along listening to some Kid Cudi, clearing my head of all the stress in my life. I started looking around at all of my surroundings and noticed a neon light advertising for the “Best Burgers in Town” at a Billiards. I thought to myself how funny that was because just the other day I was googling “Best Burgers Around”.

I took my eyes off the sign and back on the road. I saw a middle aged man walk out into the road in front of the car to the right of me to pick something up. I thought he would be quick but he was in no hurry. It was as if he was the only one in the world at that moment. I thought, “Awh shit, he's gonna get hit!” and SCREECH ...BOOM! The car hit him and like a rag doll he flipped up over the car, his shoe flew in front of my car and he landed behind her car then BOOM. Hit again by the car behind her. I was waiting to see the body once that car had gone over him but I didn't! I noticed he was caught up underneath the car as the driver was pulling over to the side.

I pulled into the median and instantly started shaking, but grabbed for my phone to call 911. I was staying on the line til they could get my call across, I see all the people get out of their car and there were several young women. They started screaming and crying once they saw the body. The driver of the car on top of him tried to back the car up so it wasn't on him anymore. As he backed up it pulled his pants to his knees. He laid flat on his face with his pants down to his knees lifeless.

I saw more and more people come to the scene on their phones so I figured I should just hang up and get out of the way because I needed to exit before I scared myself anymore. Driving the rest of the way home I was in a severe panic. 911 called me back, I notified why I was calling and they said they had help there now.
All night and morning I have been replaying this all in my head over and over.
Why was he in the road?
Was he a homeless tweaker looking for change in the road too high to know he wasn't the only one on earth?
Was it suicide?
I'll never know.
What I do know is, he's human, just like me and accidents happen all the time. Life can be taken so fast and that scares me to see it first hand like that.
