Appreciate you're view, I honestly do. However, the authors of Second Amendment to the US Constitution clearly stated that their intent behind drafting the Second Amendment was for the citizens to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. The US Supreme Court in District of Columbia vs. Heller did say that the right to bear arms extends to the right to keep weapons for personal protection. However, this should not be confused with the original authors' intent that the right of the people to possess weapons was to act as a dormant fourth branch of government, to which the government would be responsible for egregious breaches of fundamental rights.
Also, for clarification, it is almost impossible to get a fully automatic weapon in the states, unless you are a police officer. I have a lot of guns but I do not know anyone with a fully automatic weapon.
