In the world we live, good men are scarce. And the thing that's even worse is that these few good men are always taken for granted. While everyone relies on them, no one really show their appreciation towards them and some even abuse them, yes.
So if someone wants to be a good man because he desires appreciation in return, well he better think twice because it's almost guaranteed that he'll be taken for granted for a long, long time before being finally appreciated. Because sadly that's how it works in our demented world.
So what's the solution? Simple: be a good man simply because you want to be one and not because you need appreciation in return. Because frankly you'll not get it anyway.
The truth is, in this demented world inhabited by people with flawed nature, shit/bad men get appreciated while good men are just relied upon. It's a lost battle anyway for good men. So why really bother about appreciation.
