The heart should be labelled the most intelligent part of the body. Let's leave the brain out of this, the heart does not need to be schooled to feel, it is very sensitive and readily discerns. It assumes what it seems to have fundamentally possessed. This is to say that the heart feels because it is in its nature to do so.
Sometimes i imagine, if the heart is taken out of every individual, what would become of the world in two days? With no emotions whatsoever for things and people, i think everyone would be in a perpetual state of devastation, misery, frustration, purposelessness, the list goes on...
The heart is the strength and weakness of many. Whether filled with love, hate, or indifference, it is where the very essence of humanity is embedded. When in a bad or hateful situation people say "be human", the thought that usually accompanies this is "let your heart feel something"- compassion, sympathy, etc.
If this is true, then it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say the pain from a broken heart knows no bound.
So when you see a heart that is crumbling, you see a life that is slowly fading away. At this point, if you do not know how to help, engage your own heart to take up the task. If your ears are too busy, let your heart pay attention. If your mouth is filled with too much or too less words, let your heart speak.
Although you might not know who is needing this help, it's okay to try making everyone you have any form of conversation with smile. And if you're just passing by and get an eye contact, just smile.
A smile from you or your subject is the quickest medicine at the starting point. Yes it works. And you may just have bought a fellow some more moments to live!
